Pro Bono and Community

Blankingship & Keith is committed to providing pro bono legal services and financial support to civic and charitable organizations, as well as to needy individuals and families in our community.

We encourage everyone—from senior partners to paralegals and support staff—to participate in public service and pro bono initiatives.

This commitment is consistent with the aspirational goal of Rule 6.1 of the Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct, that “[a] lawyer should render at least two percent per year of the lawyer’s professional time to pro bono public legal services.” 

We have made human service a priority by devoting most of our pro bono services to persons of limited means and designating a committee to oversee our various pro bono efforts. We are also committed to continuing its financial support of local legal aid organizations.

 

Representative Cases

Our commitment to pro bono includes:

  • Securing special use permit for Lamb Center for a first of its kind project in the City of Fairfax, converting a local motel to provide permanent supportive low-income housing.

  • Routinely offer free pro bono consult for The Women’s Center clientele for custody, divorce, support and protective order cases.

  • Serve as general counsel to the Culmore Clinic an interfaith, non-profit healthcare clinic offering compassionate and culturally-sensitive medical care, counseling, and specialty referrals to low-income adults at little to no cost in the Bailey’s Crossroads community.

  • Finalizing a contested divorce for a client whose spouse is incarcerated for a felony committed after the marriage.

  • Secured numerous protective orders for indigent victims of physical abuse.
