Legal Assistant - Personal Injury

Blankingship & Keith, PC, a 46 lawyer Fairfax City law firm, has an opportunity for an experienced legal assistant with demonstrable litigation, technical and administrative skills to support attorneys in our Personal Injury practice group by assisting with our cases from intake to final disposition, creating electronic files, preparing and processing correspondence, memoranda and complex legal documents, and performing other legal administrative functions.

We pride ourselves on a team environment, limited caseload, unusual cases, and the opportunity to make meaningful changes in our clients’ lives. We are not an assembly line, hundreds of car crash cases practice.

Litigation responsibilities include preparing documents for state and federal court filings, including discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, letters, pleadings, motions and documents, as well as e-filing in various state and federal courts. Administrative duties include scheduling meetings and appointments, maintaining attorney calendars and contact information, new client intake, time entry and billing, file maintenance utilizing the firm's electronic records management system, and travel coordination and expense reimbursement. We value litigation assistants’ opinions on case selection, clients, case value and other issues that deeply affect our practice.

Qualified applicants must possess strong communication, organizational, and client service skills and be able to work in a team-oriented environment with accurate spelling, grammar and proofreading.

This position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience and a high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience supporting attorneys in personal injury litigation is required. Experience with e-filing, document management and time and billing systems is required.

Paralegal - Personal Injury

Blankingship & Keith, PC, a 46 lawyer Fairfax City law firm, has an opportunity for a Paralegal with strong litigation, technical, and administrative skills to support our Personal Injury practice group. This position assists attorneys with cases from intake through final disposition.  

 

We pride ourselves on maintaining a collaborative team environment, handling a manageable caseload, and working on complex and unusual cases that make a significant difference in our clients’ lives. Our practice is not a high-volume assembly line of car crash cases. We value our paralegals’ insight and opinion on case selection, client relationship, case valuation, and other issues that deeply affect our practice.

 

Litigation responsibilities include assisting with all aspects of civil litigation including:

  • Drafting pleadings, complaints, and answers
  • Preparing, serving and responding to discovery
  • Issuing subpoenas and managing expert witness designations
  • Conducting focus groups and assisting with jury research and selection
  • Coordinating depositions and interviewing witnesses
  • Preparing trial exhibits and assisting with trial preparation
  • Organizing and maintaining case files
  • Obtaining and reviewing medical records and preparing summaries
  • Maintaining electronic files using the firm’s document management system
  • Paralegals are considered timekeepers and are expected to meet established billable hour goals and accurately track their time in the firm’s time and billing system

 

Qualified applicants must possess:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in personal injury litigation
  • A paralegal certificate, or currently working toward certification
  • Strong communication, organizational, and client service skills
  • Excellent grammar and proofreading ability
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office and Dropbox
  • Experience with e-filing, document management systems, and time and billing software
