Robert J. Stoney
A native of Northern Virginia, Rob Stoney has represented people and families in serious automobile, truck and bus crashes, product-liability matters, wrongful-death claims, and traumatic brain injuries for more than three decades.
He limits the number of matters he takes so he can stay closely involved with each one. Rob has tried and litigated cases throughout Virginia and elsewhere in the United States and abroad.
Much of his work involves catastrophic injuries, difficult liability issues, and well-funded defendants. Recent results include a $7 million settlement arising from a construction-site death, a $6 million highway-construction injury settlement, a $5.075 million settlement for a father who was paralyzed in a crash, and a $4.4 million verdict in a commercial-vehicle matter.
Rob commits significant time to service to the community and pro bono work. He is a Member of the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners. He has led numerous legal-aid and pro bono organizations, served on statewide bar initiatives, and worked on public safety projects In 2009, the Supreme Court of Virginia presented him with its Award for Extraordinary Public Service.
His work has been recognized by Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, Virginia Lawyers Weekly, Washingtonian, Virginia Business, and Northern Virginia Magazine, and was named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers, four times, for his Products Liability work in the DC Metro area. In 2026, Virginia Lawyers Weekly named him to its Hall of Fame.
